🎧 [NEW EPISODE] Tiny Altars Audiobook Release UPDATE

Dear Reader,

Today may be the day my audiobook is available. Or maybe tomorrow or later this week.

It's all ready and in review at Audible. This is a new thing I've never tried before; I recorded my first book in a home studio and waited for it to be delivered. For Tiny Altars, I reached out to a podcast producer whose work I admired, K.O. Myers at Particulate Media, and together we collaborated to craft this audiobook. This is one of my favorite things: working with fellow creatives whose work speaks to me. And this way, authors who work with me (and K.O.) to record their own audiobooks benefit from this beta experience. Which I think is so much fun.

So as of this moment, you can't get the audiobook. Yet. However... here's what I do have available for you:

The Audiobook Foreword

K.O. has produced two new podcast episodes with audiobook chapters for you to preview, including the kind of behind-the-scenes commentary I adore on a good DVD. (Side note: If you ever get the chance to listen to the special feature on When Harry Met Sally of Rob Reiner talking with Nora Ephron, treat yourself. I digress.)

The first episode dropped this week, and it is NOT Minnesota Nice. (The Foreword is far sweeter than my commentary.) But it's what I needed to say. Considering where we are, I wanted to make myself clear.

Please listen. As I say in Tiny Altars, receive what's for you, release what isn't. With love...

The Celebration

To celebrate our audiobook release, I'm hosting a little Zoom party this Sunday, November 24 at 3:00 Central inside my Circle for Real-Life Writers. K.O. will join me for Writers Talk Writing, a format similar to my podcasts except that writing circle members are invited into the conversation, and at the end we take time to write. This month, we are talking about the making of an audiobook—mine, and potentially, theirs.

It's Circle members and friends only, so if you are NOT a member of the Circle but I know you, reply to this email and I'll send you an invitation. It will be recorded, available only in my Circle Library.

And finally...

The Holiday Offer

Last year I introduced my Writer's Trail Map and it was so popular that I've added that to my ongoing offers as an effective way to find writing direction in one 45-minute session. Still available, still effective.

This year, I'm piloting Story Finding Sessions: monthly recorded calls, $500 for four months and the option to continue with a $125 / month retainer. Story Finding Sessions are an intermediate step between Writer's Trail Map and my Signature Book Writing Mentorship, and they're modeled on my apprenticeship with Cheri Register that first taught me the craft of a creative nonfiction author. Currently, I have three spaces available.

NOW THROUGH DECEMBER 15, while spaces remain, I'm offering a 5th monthly call FREE.

Request your sessions here. This is an incredible investment in your writing.

Travel safely.

Love, Amy

PS—Our Writing Revival is happening in Prior Lake on January 18, 2:00 moving into the early evening. Starts with writing and ends with ten of us sitting around a table, talking about writing over a prepared-for-us tasting menu. Rather than advertise widely, this one is coming to you by word of mouth.

Five spaces remain. Is one yours? Let me know.

Dear Reader, This year, more than ever, I wanted to honor Black History Month, at a time when attempts have been made to erase it. So I invited my friend Terry Newby to help me do that. As a white woman in America, I loved literature, but I did not grow up reading many marginalized voices. While I knew the name James Baldwin, I couldn't have told you what he stood for. And now? I know him as a Black man and a gay author. And what else? I've admired his interview clips. He feels important. How...

My 100th Episode Boundaries Make Things Possible. Dear Reader, I recently came across my final project from my Master Coach Training in the fall of 2017. It was a PowerPoint-presentation meets-screen-recording in which I told everyone what I had done all summer, which was... branding my business, curating thematic images, and amassing a mess of unfulfilled goals. It was humbling. I had to upload something to our group forum by midnight Eastern Time (I am on Central) and I had run out of time....

Dear Reader, I released a new / old podcast episode this week, and it feels very timely. Let me explain. This episode, in which my dear colleague and peer Orla Collins interviewed me in 2023, introduces my 52-card Tiny Altars oracle deck. I didn't release it back then. My books are available through distributors other than me, and I haven't been interested in opening a storefront to sell these decks. I already tried that with my first book and my first products, and I could do that again, but...
